Young Children
If you decide you would like your child to start on the journey of faith within the Christian family of the church then you may choose to have them baptised (sometimes called Christening). We will ask parents, and godparents if available, to come and meet us for some discussion of what the service means, and preparation for it. The church and the godparents support the family and the child in this decision.
Alternatively, Thanksgiving is a way some parents want to celebrate the gift of a child without the serious commitment that baptism involves. The child will be blessed and prayed for and supporting friends promise to support the parents in bringing up their baby.
Adult Baptisms
If you have not been baptised as a baby, but as a teenager or adult come to a new understanding of personal faith in Jesus, you can be baptised - either by sprinkling water, or by full immersion. The service provides the opportunity, not only to make formal promises, but also to share why you are taking this step, so we can celebrate with you how God has led you to this point.
Baptism usually takes place in our All Age service on the first Sunday of the month.

Baptisms or
"Christenings"
Baptism is a unique, special celebration publicly recognising God’s love for us. In baptism we are saying that we all need to turn from the darkness of evil and make a new start with God. Baptism is a ‘sacrament': a visible sign of God’s love and is intended to show that someone has begun the journey of being a disciple of Jesus. The Church of England baptises people as adults and as children.
